Villa Kempen-Broek is situated on the most beautiful avenue of Weert, the Kazernelaan. The location is at the entrance of the large, cross-border Kempen-Broek National Park. It is also directly on the lake “IJzeren Man” with its tropical swimming pool, water-ski installation, petting zoo, climbing garden and environmental centre. There are lots of nature, hiking, (quad) biking possibilities and lots of entertainment for adults and kids right on the lake where we are. Our historical town Weert offers lots of shopping, a Saturday Market and a multitude of restaurants, pubs and bars is just 3 kilometers away.

Trappist Brewery “Achelse Kluis”

At the Dutch-Belgian border you will find a monastery where they are brewing their famous Trappist Beer. Maybe you will first go for a walk in the beautiful surroundings. But you want to end at the terrace where you can taste the freshly tapped Trappist Beer. Like all other Trappist breweries, the beers are sold in order to support the monastery and charities. Enjoy.

Urn Fields

3,0 km from the villa

The two most important urn fields are the urn fields on the Boshoverheide and the urn field on Raak. The urn field on the Boshoverheide (see picture) is a protected monument and dates from the Urnsveld period. This time includes the Late Bronze Age until the beginning of the Middle Iron Age (approximately 1050 – 400 BC). It is the largest urnfield in north-western Europe. In total, this field of urns counts 900 burial mounds. There is a nice walking route along this urn fields. Free entrance.

This brewery makes a lot of different kinds of beer. Some Dutch breweries lease a brewing kettle to make their own special beer. A short walk for children and their (grand) parents

This is a short walk of no more than 3 km around the IJzeren Man Lake showcasing all the local children’s delights: a petting zoo, the Forest of the Six Senses, the climbing forest, anindoor play garden and a drink or children’s meal at the Sluys Restaurant .

Hiking

Weert is regularly voted the greenest region in the world. It is surround by national parks and Villa Kempen Broek is located right at the entrance of the Border Crossing Park Kempen-Broek. Hikes may bring you to lakes, forests, dunes, heather, marshes, centuries old farms and farmland and even pre-historic burial sites.
